Here is what we do.....

About Swan Transport

Who can use the service?

Swan's transport scheme is aimed at supporting those on a lower income  who are residents of BATHNES with no easy access to transport.

Travelling with us: Passengers are welcome to bring a relative/carer on their journeys with Swan. If you are travelling unaccompanied you will need to be able to walk to the car and get in and out of a car seat relatively unaided,.

If you use a walking aid please let us know.

Unfortunately we don't have any wheelchair accessible vehicles (for non-folding wheelchairs) amongst our team of drivers but we may be able to signpost you to other transport options.

Where can I go?

You can take journeys with us to visit friends or family, attend social activities, go to any health-related appointments, do shopping, attend training or educational facilities or simply go for a trip out. Our drivers may also be able to offer with assisted shopping if it's requested. Journeys are generally within B&NES county but we occasionally do journeys outside the county (which is driver dependent), please enquire in the office. We are now able to travel to the Bristol hospitals depending on driver availability.

Who will my driver be?

Swan's transport staff endeavour to find a volunteer driver who lives near to you to help keep the cost of your journey down. Our volunteer drivers are mainly retired people who fit Swan journeys in with their busy lives, so we work with whatever availability they are able to offer us

How much will I have to pay?

Swan receives funding from a number of sources however, this only currently covers about 50% of our costs. For this reason we ask those travelling with Swan for a donation towards their travel.  Suggested donations are in bands depending to the overall mileage the driver needs to do for your journey and we try to find the nearest drivers to you that have offered availability for the day of your trip.

The minimum suggested donation for a local return journey is £7.50 increasing through several mileage bands to £24.00  for a longer trip (eg. Midsomer Norton to Bath). For Bristol hospitals the suggested donation for a return trip is around £35, but staff will advise you of the amount if a driver is available.

How do I arrange transport?

Just ring 01761 439548 and give our staff your journey details. The office is manned between 9.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday,  Outside of those hours or if the phone is engaged, please leave a message and one of our staff will ring you back.
